A delegation from the rebel movement "Ansar Allah" (Houthis) is planning to visit Saudi Arabia for discussions regarding a ceasefire in Yemen, Reuters reported, citing insider sources.
According to these sources, in addition to the Houthis, a delegation from Oman, which arrived in Sana'a on Thursday, will also be traveling to Saudi Arabia. Both delegations are expected to arrive in Riyadh on the same day.
Bloomberg reported the day before that the coming weeks are crucial for Yemen's future as Riyadh prepares for a new round of talks with the Houthis. The Houthis have threatened to resume attacks on Saudi Arabia if they do not receive reparations and a significant share of oil and gas revenues. The agency also suggested that differences between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are jeopardizing the prospects for a peaceful settlement in Yemen.
The conflict between government forces and supporters of the rebel Ansar Allah movement has been ongoing in Yemen since August 2014. It escalated significantly with the invasion of the country by a coalition led by Saudi Arabia in March 2015. In February 2023, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that Yemen had a real opportunity to move toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
