The Syrian army's artillery opened fire on positions of Turkey-backed militias in the Bab al-Hawa border region on Tuesday, An-Nashra news portal reported. According to its information, several rockets landed on the Turkish territory without causing any damage.
In turn, a source in the command of the Syrian Armed Forces specified that the strikes were carried out in response to the shelling of the Menagh military airfield in the northern Aleppo province, and attacks on the Syrian soldiers stationed in the town of Ayn al-Arab (Kurdish name Kobani) on the eastern bank of the Euphrates.
On November 20, Kurdish Democratic Syrian Forces (SDF) spokesman Ferhat Shami told Firat News Agency that 15 government troops who had been deployed to Ayn al-Arab in June to repel a possible Turkish invasion had been killed. The SDF itself lost 37 fighters killed and wounded.
Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said Monday that the republic's Armed Forces neutralized more than 180 members of Kurdish organizations in two days of Operation Claw-Sword in Iraq and Syria. The attacks were carried out on the locations of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the Self-Defense Forces units that make up the backbone of the SDF in Turkey. Turkish authorities have blamed the PKK and Syrian Kurds for the November 13 attack in Istanbul, which killed six people.
