Media: Turkish troops and drones struck Abu Rasain area in northern Syria

18 April 2022

Turkish army artillery fired on Monday at the Abu Rasein area in the northern Syrian province of Al-Hasakah. According to SANA news agency, the fire came from guns and mortars from the border security zone created by Turkish troops in 2019.

As a result, there was material damage to residential buildings, and there were casualties among civilians, their number is specified.

Turkish Air Force drones also struck Abu Rasein and its surroundings. The Syrian opposition groups, backed by Ankara, are operating in the region, sabotaging the Turkish Armed Forces and Syrian opposition formations.

According to witnesses, because of the intense shelling a number of residents left their homes, heading towards the administrative center of Al-Hasakah (630 km from Damascus).

On December 21 last year, three civilians were the victims of shelling by Turkish troops and their allies in Abu Rasein, and at least 10 others were wounded, including children.

Turkey conducted a military operation "Peace Spring" in northeastern Syria in October 2019, creating a 30-kilometer security zone along its border. Pro-Turkish opposition fighters stationed there regularly attack population centers under the pretext of fighting Kurdish units and terrorizing local residents.
