Today, the Valdai discussion club holds the traditional Middle East Conference. This year, discussions are dedicated to the theme “Middle East in a Time of Change: Towards New Stability Architecture”. 30 foreign and 20 Russian delegates will take part in the discussion, including Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov, Minister of Social Development of the State of Palestine Ahmad Majdalani, Director of the Political Department of the Palestine Liberation Organization Anwar Abdulhade, Senior Advisor to Iranian Foreign Minister Mehdi Sanaei, Member of the Lebanese Parliament Amal Abou Zeid, as well as authoritative experts from Russia, the United States, Israel, Turkey, Great Britain, France, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Syria and other countries.
The conference is focused on scenarios for the development of the situation in the Middle East, the transformation of regional architecture, and aspects of the current state of affairs in the Middle East: from regional trends to the growth of conflict and the activation of protest movements to the situation in specific countries.
In particular, the participants of the conference will analyze the prospects for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the contradictions between Turkey and the SAR authorities in Idlib, the options for developments in Libya after the meeting in Moscow and the conference in Berlin, the upcoming third elections in Israel this year, and the situation in the Persian Gulf.
In addition, experts from the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences will present a report on the key problems of the Middle East and the main trends in the development of the region: both unfavorable scenarios with an increase in violence and the use of military force, interference by external players and difficulties in the oil and gas sector, which is important for the region's economy, and a positive scenario to be possible to restore stability in the region and even create a new security architecture.
