Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held a number of international telephone conversations on Middle East issues.

During the talks with the Vice Chairman of the Presidential Council and Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord of Libya Ahmed Maiteeq and  and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Accord of Libya Mohamed Siala, the parties discussed  the latest military and political developments in Libya in the context of the statement recently made by Commander of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar.

"The Russian side reaffirmed its principled approach regarding a political settlement of the crisis in Libya through developing a constructive national dialogue in the country, including with due account of a statement made by President of the House of Representatives of Libya Aguila Saleh Issa of April 23, 2020, and in accordance with UNSC Resolution 2510," the message of the Russian MFA reads.

The settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was discussed in a telephone conversation with Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organisation Executive Committee Saeb Erekat.

"During the exchange of views on developments in the Palestinian territories and prospects for a Middle East peace settlement, Russia reaffirmed its unchanging commitment to the two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict via direct bilateral talks on the established basis of international law with the assistance of the quartet of international mediators," the message of the Russian MFA reads.

The parties, as noted, emphasised that restoring the Palestine national unity on the PLO political platform was a priority.
At the initiative of the Yemeni side, Mikhail Bogdanov also had a telephone conversation with President of the Southern Transitional Council of Yemen Aidarus al-Zubaidi.

"During the conversation Aidarus al-Zubaidi presented his assessment of the military, political and humanitarian developments in South Yemen, including the rationale behind the statement on establishing self-government in the southern Yemeni provinces, including in Aden.  At the same time, he emphasised that such measures were designed to effectively resolve the problems of the people that have been caused by the recent unprecedented floods and the threat of the spread of the coronavirus infection in the region," the Russian MFA reports.

The Russian side reaffirmed its approach towards finding solutions to current issues on the national agenda in Yemen through an inclusive inter-Yemeni dialogue with the assistance of the UN.
