Representatives of the Armenian Armed Forces (AF) said they would implement the agreement on settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh signed the day before by the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan and called on the people to refrain from actions that destabilize the situation. This was stated in a joint address of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Republic to the people of Armenia, published on Tuesday on the Ministry's Facebook page.
The statement notes that "on September 27 a war was launched against Artsakh (unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic - TASS), unprecedented in strength, means, quantity and type of weapons involved". "Our army in these conditions has done the possible and impossible to confront the enemy," the Armenian military statement says.
"But the time has come to stop the bloodshed. The political leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan have come to an agreement with the content of which you are already familiar," the statement of the Defense Ministry and the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces reads.
"We support and must implement the decisions of the military and political leadership of our country, which were taken on the basis of a comprehensive analysis and assessment of the situation. We are obliged to stop the bloodshed," the statement reads.
The Armenian Armed Forces urged the compatriots to refrain from actions that could destabilize the situation. "We call on you to refrain from actions that can undermine the foundations of statehood and, having learned from all possible mistakes, build an incomparably strong and combat-ready army, which our heroic people deserve," the statement reads.
On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on the complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. As the Russian leader said in particular, the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides will stay in their occupied positions and Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region.
The situation in Yerevan
After the release of information about the signing of the agreement on Karabakh, residents of Yerevan from all over the city moved to the Republic Square to the government building. Some protesters against the decision to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh broke into the building.
The demonstrators asked one of the country's military leaders to take control of the situation. Later, the protesters broke into the parliament building.
Pashinyan said he planned to organize a meeting of his supporters in the capital of Armenia.
