Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Speaker of Turkmenistan's Upper house of Parliament Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov are holding talks in Ashgabat on Friday.
Berdimuhamedov met Mishustin at the House of Receptions of the upper house. Prior to the meeting, a joint photo ceremony was held.
Later in the day, the head of the Russian Cabinet of Ministers is also scheduled to have talks with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Mishustin started his working day on Friday by laying a wreath at the "People's Memory" memorial. The day before, he visited the joint Turkmen-Russian school named after Alexander Pushkin in Ashgabat and spoke at a plenary session of the Russian-Turkmen Business Forum.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov became Turkmenistan's acting head in late 2006 and was elected president in February 2007. He was reelected twice (in 2012 and 2017) and served as head of state until early 2022, when his son Serdar Berdimuhamedov was elected to the top government position in Turkmenistan in early elections.
