Earlier it was reported that there had been an attempted coup in the republic. According to the Al Arabiya TV channel, a group of armored forces officers revolted at around 03:00 local time (04:00 Moscow time) and tried to seize power in Sudan by ousting the governing Sovereign council. According to the channel, the conspirators, who were also joined by soldiers from the airborne and engineering forces, were commanded by major general Abdel Baki Bakraoui. It was also noted that all of them were connected with the Muslim Brotherhood Islamist association (banned in the Russian Federation).
According to Al Arabiya, the putsch was suppressed without a single shot being fired, and there has been no information about casualties or deaths to date. All of those arrested have been transferred to the military intelligence headquarters for interrogation. The situation in the Sudanese capital remains calm. All roads are open and there are no problems with transport. State institutions and stores are open as usual.
