Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation cooperate effectively in the protection of human rights, Russia's Commissioner for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova said on Wednesday in Bishkek during the international scientific conference "The role of the ombudsman institution in the protection of human rights."

"We manage to respond to a number of events in the protection of human rights, largely due to a very close cooperation (with the Kyrgyz side - TASS)," she said.

According to the ombudsman, most often such cooperation concerns the protection of the rights of migrant workers from Kyrgyzstan working in Russia, who are given "the necessary support".

In addition, she continued, in such cases it is often possible to prove the unlawfulness of decisions made against migrants.

The ombudsman must not support one of the political forces, she said, but must be truly independent and "adhere to justice."

The international research-to-practice conference "Ombudsman's role in human rights protection", held in Bishkek, is timed to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the ombudsman institution in Kyrgyzstan.
