The Religious Board of Muslims of the Lugansk People's Republic (part of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia) intends to create a madrassa to train theologians in the LNR, Eldar Gambarov, Mufti of the LNR and imam of the Lugansk Cathedral Mosque, told TASS on Monday.
"We have a spiritual department registered at the address of the cathedral mosque. In the future we will see if we have the opportunity to build a madrassa. We plan to do that. Accordingly, probably, it will be in this building," said Gambarov.
He specified that this question has already been raised during his working trip to Moscow.
According to him, earlier LNR residents used to go to the Crimea for education and until 2014 - to Kyiv. Now, if a madrassa will be created in Lugansk, "residents of the Kherson region will be able to study in it".
Mufti added that the Lugansk cathedral mosque suffered from shelling, mainly in 2014-2015: cracks appeared, the roof is damaged, and leaks through. Now it has been partially restored, the windows have been replaced.
