Military resolution of the conflict in Syria is impossible. Such statement was declared by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
According to the head of this international organization, it is impossible to achieve sustainable peace in this Middle Eastern country due to the ongoing hostilities. He recalled that the special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, seeks to move towards the formation of the Syrian constitutional committee in cooperation with conflicting parties.
Guterres also stressed that the cessation of hostilities in Syria is possible through a political settlement in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2254. Only the settlement process can eliminate causes of the conflict in Syria, the UN Secretary General noted.
"But it is difficult to gain confidence in the settlement process against the backdrop of continuing active hostilities," Guterres explained.
