The entire territory of Syria, including the terrorist enclave in Idlib, could already be under the control of the legitimate government, if not for the support of radicals from outside, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on Monday, speaking at a meeting of the world organization's Security Council on the situation in Syria.
"Within the framework of effective and verified actions of the Astana format, Russia, Turkey and Iran have achieved together a sustainable cessation of hostilities in most of the country," he said. - "The areas of tension remain in the Idlib de-escalation zone, where Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (banned in the Russian Federation), recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN Security Council, has strengthened. A cease-fire is now generally maintained in the country."
"If it were not for the continued support of militants and separatists and attempts to whitewash them, the entire territory of Syria today would have been liberated from extremists," Nebenzya stressed.
