Nebenzya: Russia Believes US and UK Were Behind Attack on TurkStream

17 January

Russia has strong grounds to believe that the attack on the compressor station in Krasnodar Krai, which supplies gas to the TurkStream pipeline, was orchestrated under the guidance of the United States and the United Kingdom. This statement was made by Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

“The attack carried out by the Kiev regime on January 11 against the compressor station of the TurkStream gas pipeline in Krasnodar Krai stands out among the series of attacks,” Nebenzya stated during a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine.

He added, “Let me remind you that the expired Ukrainian president had recently refused to renew the contract for the transit of natural gas to Europe through Ukraine. We have every reason to believe that the attack on TurkStream's infrastructure was carried out under the guidance of Washington and London, who are interested in making the EU dependent on expensive LNG from the US. Let us not forget that these very countries have been obstructing an impartial international investigation into the Nord Stream sabotage in September 2022. The conclusions are, as they say, obvious.”

Earlier, Russia's Ministry of Defense reported that Kyiv had attempted to halt gas supplies to Europe by attacking the “Russkaya" compressor station in the Krasnodar Territory with nine aircraft-type UAVs.

Despite the attack, the compressor station continues to operate and supply gas to the pipeline in normal mode.
