Iran and Russia should make a leap in economic relations, there is necessary potential for this, the new Ambassador of the Islamic Republic to Russia Kazem Jalali told RIA Novosti.
In the political sphere, according to the diplomat, relations between the two countries are at a good level.
"Another area of cooperation is the economic sector. The volume of trade between the two countries is small-less than 2 billion dollars. In my opinion, this indicator should be increased. In the economic sphere, I think we need to try to make a leap, especially given the fact that Iran signed an agreement with the EEU, and this agreement was ratified by the Parliament," the agency quoted the Iranian Ambassador as saying.
Iran, as Jalali stressed, could meet a significant part of its economic needs at the expense of Russia and imports from it.
At the same time, the Islamic Republic also has something to offer Russia, for example, agricultural products.
The former member of Parliament Kazem Jalali replaced Mehdi Sanaei, who represented the interests of his country since 2013, as the Iranian Ambassador.
