18 March

More than 4,300 citizens of the Russian Federation participated in the presidential election at consulates general in Egypt, according to reports from Russian diplomatic missions in Hurghada and Alexandria.

"In total, about 3,000 people took part in the voting. We extend our gratitude to all voters who demonstrated their active civic engagement," read a statement published in the official Telegram channel of the Russian consulate general in Alexandria. Russian Consul General in Hurghada Viktor Voropayev reported to TASS that his office saw a final turnout of 1,304 individuals.

"The elections were conducted smoothly, without any provocations. I would like to specially commend the local security forces, particularly General Ahmed Hindi, who personally oversaw the polling station. His staff maintained security around the perimeter, ensuring a safe voting environment," Voropayev stated. He also praised the efficiency of travel companies, which arranged transportation for Russian tourists in Hurghada to reach the polling station.

Voropayev emphasized that voters began lining up at the entrance from the opening of the polling station, with the flow gradually decreasing only towards the end of the day. He clarified that contrary to some social media reports, queues were observed throughout the day, starting as early as 10 or 11 am.

The Russian embassy in Cairo has not yet released data on the voter turnout at its polling station.
