The Pakistani government has adopted extra security measures to ensure the safety of the 23rd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states in Islamabad, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar told foreign reporters on Sunday.
“Islamabad is one of the safest cities in our country,” Tarar stated. “As you know, we have the 'Safe City' surveillance and rapid response system in place, along with many law enforcement officers. In addition to this, we have deployed extra military personnel for security purposes. Army representatives will guard the 'red zone' (the area in Islamabad that houses key government, judicial, and legislative buildings — TASS).”
The minister further emphasized that the authorities have taken “extraordinary” measures to secure the events of the SCO summit.
The 23rd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of SCO member states will take place in Islamabad from October 15 to 16, 2024.
