Palestinian Ambassador to Russia: countries are discussing the possibility of producing "Sputnik V"

26 November 2020

Palestine is negotiating with Russia on the possibility of producing the coronavirus vaccine "Sputnik V" in its medical facilities, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal told in an interview with Izvestia, published on Thursday.

"The Russian vaccine has long been known to us, we are watching the research and waiting for the vaccination to start in Russia. At the moment,  we are in talks with Moscow to purchase the vaccine. We are also negotiating to reproduce the Russian vaccine ourselves in our medical facilities after receiving it," the ambassador said.

The diplomat specified that in order to bring the Russian medicine to Palestine, it is necessary to obtain permission from the Israeli Ministry of Health. "According to my information, they [Israeli authorities] are not going to create their own vaccine in the medium term. They plan to buy the medicine from the USA, from Russia. We will keep tracking," the ambassador added.

On August 11, Russia was the first in the world to register a vaccine against coronavirus, which was called "Sputnik V". The drug was developed by the Russian Ministry of Health's Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology and passed clinical trials in June-July.
