Israel's appropriation of extensive tracts of land in the West Bank of the Jordan River is viewed as a continuation of its policy of genocide against the Palestinian people, leading to their forcible expulsion from their own territories, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry issued a statement.
"The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemns the decision made by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to claim 8,000 dunams (approximately 800 hectares - TASS) as Israeli territory, deeming this step a blatant crime in every sense of the word. <...> The impunity granted to Israeli authorities enables them to persist in perpetrating genocide against our people, seizing their lands, and forcibly displacing them from their rightful territories," the statement, posted on the foreign ministry's social media page, reads. The ministry also criticized the global community for its inaction and perceived complicity in what it describes as the "crime of the century" committed by the Israeli government.
Earlier reports from the Israeli state broadcaster Kan highlighted the expropriation of 8,000 dunams in the West Bank of Jordan, with plans underway for the construction of several hundred housing units.
Israel's ongoing expansion of settlements in the West Bank remains a significant obstacle to resolving the protracted Palestinian-Israeli conflict. In December 2016, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 2334, demanding an immediate cessation of settlement activities by the Jewish state in the occupied Palestinian territories. However, Israel promptly rejected compliance with the provisions outlined in the resolution.
