Today, the State Duma is hosting the first joint meeting of the International Affairs Committees of the Chambers of the Federal Assembly of Russia, as well as the parliaments of Iran and Turkey. The situation in and around Syria and security for the Middle East is the central issue of discussion.
According to Leonid Slutsky, the head of the Duma Foreign Affairs Committee, the Iranian parliamentary delegation is headed by Mejlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, and the delegation of the National Assembly of Turkey is Volkan Bozkir, the head of the International Affairs Committee.
«We are looking forward to the professional discussion, as well as putting the format on a regular basis. Such meetings can be held annually in turns in Moscow, Ankara and Tehran», Slutsky noted, in particular.
