Russian Security Council (SB) Secretary Nikolai Patrushev has arrived in Iran, the press service of the Russian Security Council office reported on Wednesday.
"In Tehran, Patrushev will hold planned Russian-Iranian consultations on security with specialists from security councils and representatives of several ministries and departments of the two countries," the report said.
Russia and Iran interact regularly on security issues. For example, Russian-Iranian interdepartmental consultations on information security were held in Tehran in early October. The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Oleg Khramov.
Patrushev himself was in Tehran for the last time in December 2019, when multilateral consultations on Afghan issues were held there. Since then, however, he has spoken with his Iranian counterparts more than once in other venues, both bilaterally and multilaterally. For example, in February 2021 the secretary of the Russian Security Council met in Moscow with the chairman of the Assembly of the Islamic Council of Iran. A number of other contacts took place over the phone.
