Russia highly appreciates the peacekeeping activities and mediation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.
"Of course, we appreciate Mr. Erdogan's efforts, his peacekeeping activities, his attempts to mediate and his attitude toward the development of bilateral Russian-Turkish relations," the Kremlin spokesman said in response to a request to comment on former President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's proposal to nominate the Turkish leader for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Earlier on Friday, Neytralny Turkmenistan reported that Berdimuhamedov had proposed nominating Erdogan for the Nobel Peace Prize. According to the newspaper, he called the Turkish president an outstanding personality and a world-class politician who is doing great work to ensure a peaceful life not only for his own, but for all Muslim peoples.
