Prime Minister of Bahrain died

Bahraini Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa died on Wednesday. This was announced by the Royal Court, as reported by the BNA news agency.


A week of mourning has been declared in the country. The funeral of the prince will be held after his body is brought home from the US.


The head of the government died in an American clinic where he was treated. He was born on November 24, 1935, was the second son of King Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and his wife Mozah bint Hamad Al Khalifa.


Khalifa bin Salman was appointed to the post of Prime Minister on August 15, 1971, the day after independence, he headed the government until his death. He became the longest-serving prime minister in the world and was considered to have held his position longer than anyone else. He played a significant role in building governance and modernizing Bahrain. Under the 2002 constitution, part of his authority was transferred to the king, who had the power to appoint and dismiss ministers. Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa was considered the richest member of the ruling family and one of the largest businessmen in the kingdom.
