Production of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V against coronavirus has started at the Karaganda pharmaceutical complex in Kazakhstan. This was reported on Monday by the press service of the government of the republic.
"Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin visited the Karaganda pharmaceutical complex, where he launched the production of the Sputnik V vaccine as part of the implementation of agreements between Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation," the report said.
According to the press service, 2 million doses of vaccines will be produced at the complex in stages. "Mass vaccination with Sputnik V, produced in Kazakhstan, will begin in February 2021. First of all, medical workers, teachers, students, law enforcement officers, the contingent of medical and social institutions, as well as representatives of risk groups with chronic diseases will be vaccinated on a voluntary basis," Mamin said, emphasizing the particular importance of localization of industrial production of the Sputnik V vaccine in Kazakhstan.
On December 18, Tokayev said that Kazakhstan would launch joint production of coronavirus vaccines with Russia, both Russian and Kazakhstani, including for export.
