Senator Alexey Pushkov criticized the US position on Iran and explained the significance of Washington's actions for the United Nations.
According to the politician, the United States is seriously challenging the international community by trying to impose anti-Iranian sanctions on the UN Security Council.
"This is a direct attack on the powers of the Security Council, the Charter and the role of the UN and international law," Pushkov said on Twitter.
He noted that the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, also rejected the US demands, since, according to the parliamentarian, "this would mean recognizing their dictate to the UN."
Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the UN sanctions against Iran have re-entered into force, despite the fact that the organization itself does not agree with this; countries that do not comply with the "obligations" to implement the sanctions, as Pompeo threatened, will face "consequences" in the coming days with the help of unilateral actions by Washington.
