Putin and Erdogan discuss Nagorno-Karabakh situation

Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan exchanged views on the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh in a telephone conversation. This was reported by the Kremlin press service on Thursday.


"The exchange of views on the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh continued," the statement said. - "A positive assessment of the joint Russian-Turkish center for cease-fire and military operations control was given."


"The Turkish president expressed support for Russian efforts to ensure the full implementation of the agreements enshrined in the statements of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan of November 9, 2020, and January 11, 2021," the Kremlin added. Putin and Erdogan also confirmed "mutual readiness to continue coordination, including in the interests of economic development and restoration of the region's transport infrastructure."


In addition, the leaders touched on the settlement in Syria and stressed the importance of the Russian and Turkish militaries working together to prevent escalation in Idlib and the northeast, as well as to fight the remaining terrorist groups in those areas.


The Russian president also shared with the Turkish leader his impressions of recent talks with White House head Joe Biden in Geneva on June 16.


In addition, Erdogan, in a telephone conversation with Putin, expressed gratitude for the resumption of air travel between the two countries and the start of supplies of the Sputnik V covid vaccine to the republic. "Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed gratitude for the decision taken by the Russian side to resume air communication with Turkey, as well as for the beginning of supplies of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine," the report said.


It is noted that the sides discussed topical issues of Russian-Turkish cooperation in various fields. The sides agreed "to continue personal contacts and joint work at other levels," the Kremlin also noted.


On resumption of air communication


Regular and charter flights between Russia and Turkey resumed on June 22. Flights to this country are possible from 32 cities of Russia.


Russians do not need a visa to visit Turkey, but need a certificate of a negative result of PCR-test for covid or a certificate of full vaccination against coronavirus.


On vaccine deliveries


On April 28, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced that the republic had signed a contract to supply the Sputnik V vaccine. On May 12, in a phone conversation with Erdogan, Putin confirmed the readiness of the Russian side to supply the drug to Turkey.


On June 14, the first batch of Sputnik V arrived in the republic.
