Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Sergey Vakunov as the new ambassador to Kyrgyzstan. The corresponding presidential decree has been published.
"To appoint Sergey Ivanovich Vakunov as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kyrgyz Republic," the document states.
Another decree relieved Nikolai Udovichenko from this position. Udovichenko, born in 1962, graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) of the following USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has been in diplomatic service since 1984. From 2013 to 2018, he served as Russia's ambassador to Nigeria. In January 2019, he was appointed as Russia's ambassador to Kyrgyzstan. He is fluent in English and Hungarian.
