Putin Conducts Telephone Call with Iran's President-Elect

Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his congratulations to Masoud Pezeshkian on his victory in the Iranian presidential election and wished him success in his role. This information was disclosed by the Kremlin's press service.

 

"A telephone conversation took place between President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President-elect of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian. Vladimir Putin congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian on his victory in the presidential election and wished him success in the important public office," the statement read.

 

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the high level of relations between their countries and affirmed their readiness to continue working together. "Both sides expressed satisfaction with the achieved high level of good neighborly Russian-Iranian relations and confirmed their readiness for close joint work on further development of mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields," the report stated.

 

Additionally, they agreed to organize personal contacts in 2024. "The leaders agreed on the organization in the current year of personal contacts," the message noted. It was also mentioned that Pezeshkian received a congratulatory telegram.

 

Previously, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov had noted that Russia wishes Iran success under the new president and expects to maintain close allied relations with Tehran.

 

The second round of Iran's extraordinary presidential election, held following the death of the head of the executive branch Ebrahim Raisi, took place on July 5. The reformist wing candidate, former Health Minister Massoud Pezeshkian, won with 53.6% of the total vote. Conservative Saeed Jalili received 44.3%.
