Russian President Vladimir Putin warmly congratulated Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his 70th birthday in a telephone conversation, the Kremlin press service said.
Putin noted Erdogan's high prestige in his country and abroad, "many years of state activity for the benefit of the Turkish people and, in particular, Turkey's strengthened positions in the international arena," the Kremlin indicated.
"The significant personal contribution of Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the development of friendly Russian-Turkish relations was also emphasized," the statement said.
The leaders confirmed mutual willingness to further comprehensive strengthening of relations between Russia and Turkey and agreed to continue contacts at various levels.
Erdogan was also sent a congratulatory telegram.
