Putin congratulated Nazarbayev on his 80th birthday

Russian leader Vladimir Putin recorded a special video message on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Nursultan Nazarbayev, in which he noted his contribution to the development of Kazakhstan. the press service of the first President of the Republic announced.

"I sincerely value and am proud of our long-term friendship. From the very first meeting, we have developed truly good friendly relations, which have always been characterized by openness, mutual trust, and readiness to find joint solutions to any, even difficult issues," the message reads.

Putin recalled that the wisdom and foresight of Nazarbayev, tremendous responsibility and balance, rich life and managerial experience were widely recognized. "You have rightfully earned a high reputation in your country and in Russia, and throughout the world as an outstanding statesman and a true leader. Your great merit is that Kazakhstan has been steadily developing all these years, preserving national harmony, historical and cultural traditions, and is looking to the future, " he said in a video message.

The video message of the President of the Russian Federation was later published on  Twitter page by Nazarbayev's Press Secretary Aidos Ukibay. In it, Putin noted that the Russian Federation valued the fact that Nazarbayev had been and remained a consistent, committed supporter of the closest relations with Russia. "You are rightfully considered the father of Eurasian integration. It is difficult to overestimate Your efforts in the formation and development of the Eurasian economic Union," the Russian leader said, noting that the EEU has become an effective interstate association.

"I cannot fail to mention that it was you, Nursultan Abishevich, who once proposed the capital of Kazakhstan as a platform for negotiations to help resolve the conflict in Syria. Within the framework of the Astana format, we managed to do a lot to establish an inter-Syrian dialogue, reach agreements that allowed us to reduce the level of tension in this country," Putin said.

He recalled that Nazarbayev played an important role in the development of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian sea, which was adopted in 2018. "This document has brought to a new level the cooperation of coastal States that bear exclusive responsibility for this unique region," the Russian President explained.

Anniversary Of Nazarbayev

On July 6, 2020, Nazarbayev will turn 80 years old. Capital day, which falls on July 6, is celebrated in Kazakhstan as a public holiday. In 1997, the first President of the Republic moved the capital from Almaty to the city of Akmola, which was renamed in Astana in 1998. On March 23, 2019, head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on renaming Astana to Nur-Sultan in honor of Nazarbayev.
