Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Kazakhstan's first president Nursultan Nazarbayev on his birthday in a telephone conversation, the Kremlin press service reported on Tuesday.
"During a telephone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin warmly congratulated the first president of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev on his birthday," the message said.
As previously reported by Nazarbayev's press service, Putin also sent him a congratulatory telegram in which he noted the contribution of the first president of the republic in strengthening bilateral relations.
On March 19, 2019, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who had led the country for almost 30 years, announced his resignation. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev became the new president of the republic. Nazarbayev turns 81 years old.
