Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian Muslims on the main holiday of Eid al-Adha, noting their active participation in large-scale charitable, educational and outreach initiatives in the country. The head of state's address was read Saturday morning at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque by Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, head of the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia, during his sermon on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
"Eid al-Adha bears a deep moral and spiritual meaning and serves to unite people and preserve the everlasting values of love, goodness and mercy. It is gratifying that the Muslim community in Russia actively participates in the country's life and pays tireless attention to the implementation of large-scale charitable, educational and enlightenment initiatives and the upbringing of the younger generation in respect for the traditions and customs of their ancestors," says the president in his address, quoted by Gaynutdin.
The activities of the Muslim community "are very important for maintaining interethnic peace and harmony in society," the head of state said in the message.
"We express our gratitude and support to our political leader and offer prayers to Allah to grant him help and success in his state service," the mufti said for his part.
