Russian President Vladimir Putin does not view the differences between the Gaza Strip and the rest of Palestine as indicative of hostility between them.
"In the Palestinian community, both in the West Bank and Gaza, there are differences, but I wouldn't characterize them as hostile," commented the Russian President when responding to questions from reporters.
Putin observed that the response from Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas illustrates his lack of hostility toward the Gaza Strip and its authorities. The Russian president clarified, "This, however, does not negate the necessity to enhance the level of cooperation or the importance of achieving unity within the Palestinian community or society as a whole." He added, "Naturally, the Palestinians should work towards this goal, but it's their own internal matter, and we cannot dictate the process."
