Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the leaders discussed expanding cooperation in the trade and economic sphere and stepping up efforts to combat the pandemic, including the use of the Sputnik V vaccine in Kazakhstan, the Kremlin press service reported.
"At the initiative of the Kazakh side, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Taking into account the negotiations of the Russian and Kazakh heads of government held in Moscow on March 22, the sides discussed a number of topical issues of the bilateral agenda with a focus on further expansion of cooperation in the trade and economic sphere," reads the report.
"Particular attention was paid to stepping up efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic, including the use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine in Kazakhstan," the report said.
It is noted that during the conversation, the leaders also touched upon issues of interaction within the framework of integration associations in the Eurasian space; it was agreed to further contacts at various levels.
Tokayev's press service reported that Tokayev, during the telephone conversation with the Russian leader, asked for additional supplies of the Sputnik V vaccine.
"During the conversation, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev requested additional supplies of the Sputnik V vaccine to our country. The heads of state noted the similarity of positions with regard to further strengthening the potential of the Eurasian Economic Union and agreed to closely cooperate in this area of partnership," the press service reported.
