Russian President Vladimir Putin said he and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping exchanged views on the prospects for bilateral ties during talks in a narrow format at the Kremlin on Tuesday.
Opening the extended talks, the Russian leader described the program of the Chinese president's state visit as very rich. "Last night we discussed at length the whole range of issues on the bilateral agenda and current international and regional problems," he said.
According to Putin, at the recently concluded talks in a narrow format "a very substantive and frank exchange of views on the prospects for Russian-Chinese ties and the strengthening of coordination on the world stage was held."
"Now we will have to consider in detail practical aspects of our cooperation in various areas in an extended format with participation of delegations," said the head of the Russian state.
He reminded that last December during the talks with Xi Jinping via video link it was agreed to think about new targets for interaction, "not only in quantitative, but also in qualitative terms." The result of this agreement, Putin noted, was preparation of two important conceptual documents - the Joint Statement on Advancing Russia-China Relations of Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation Entering a New Era, and the Joint Statement on the Development Plan for Key Areas of Russia-China Economic Cooperation until 2030 - for the current visit. "These two documents give the governments, business and public circles of our countries forward-looking reference points and form long-term goals for the implementation of similar tasks of comprehensive national development between our countries," stressed the president of the Russian Federation.
Putin added that the coordinating role for this ambitious task should be played by the mechanism of regular meetings between the heads of governments, the agenda of which covers all areas of cooperation between Moscow and Beijing.
