The share of transactions conducted in the national currencies of Russia and Turkey has been increasing, while the use of the dollar and euro in these transactions has been declining, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference following talks with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"The use of national currencies, specifically the ruble and the lira, is on the rise in our trade interactions. Concurrently, the share of transactions conducted in dollars and euros continues to decline," Putin stated.
Putin mentioned that during his discussions with Erdogan, they noted the increase in bilateral trade. Specifically, he mentioned that "by the end of 2022, trade turnover had surged by 86%, reaching a remarkable 62 billion dollars, or potentially even more according to some statistics. Additionally, trade in the first half of the current year grew by an additional 4%."
