Russian President Vladimir Putin urged to start taking measures so that the situation in the global food market does not become tragic, noting that the problems in this market are not related to the start of a special military operation of Russia in Ukraine and arose because of errors in the economy of Western countries.
Putin, at a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Thursday, drew attention to the fact that, while fighting the consequences of the pandemic, Western countries began "to rake food products from global markets, and food prices went up sharply." In this situation, he said, "developing countries were in the worst situation".
"We can discuss it all we want but now we need to take measures so that the situation would not become tragic," the Russian leader said.
He expressed hope that Indonesia will be able to work together with Russia, other interested countries and the UN on this issue in preparation for the G20 meeting.
