20 September 2022

Any conflict situations between Azerbaijan and Armenia are of serious concern to Russia, Moscow calls on the parties to observe the ceasefire regime, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday when he addressed foreign ambassadors at a credentials ceremony.

"I emphasize that any conflict situations between states close to us cause us serious concern. We call on everyone to show restraint, strictly observe the ceasefire and firmly follow the trilateral statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia," the president said.

According to Putin, the key to resolving disputed territorial issues lies in professional joint work within the framework of a bilateral commission on the delimitation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, with advisory assistance from Russia.

"The annual summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization will be held in Yerevan in November. I would like to note that the organization (CSTO - TASS) is taking measures related to the aggravation of the situation in the Armenian-Azerbaijani border area. A special mission led by the CSTO Secretary-General has been sent to the confrontation zone. It has been tasked to prepare proposals for the Council of Collective Security [CSTO] based on the results of the examination of the situation," the Russian leader said.

"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the fraternal Armenian people and the leadership of the country on tomorrow's Independence Day," he said. - "This year marks two important anniversaries - the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries and the twenty-fifth anniversary of the signing of the fundamental treaty of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance."

Moscow and Yerevan maintain an intensive political dialogue, the Russian president added. Putin reminded that he met three times with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in 2022 alone, including recently in Vladivostok at the Eastern Economic Forum.
