Putin: Russia Grateful to Saudi Crown Prince for Help with Prisoner Swap with the US

05 September

The Russian Federation is thankful to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud for his assistance in facilitating negotiations that led to a prisoner exchange with the United States in August, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum.

“Regarding the exchanges that took place, many countries were involved in this mission. For example, in the case of the US journalist, who worked under the guise of a journalist but was clearly engaged in intelligence activities (referring to The Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich - TASS), the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia played an active role in the initial stage of the negotiations. We are grateful to him for this, as it ultimately led to the return of our citizens to their homeland,” Putin said.

He also acknowledged the role of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, stating, “President Erdogan provided the Turkish platform for the final resolution of these issues. Other countries from the Arab world, as well as several other states, also demonstrated goodwill in this process.”
