10 November 2020

Russia will do everything to ensure that all agreements reached on Nagorno-Karabakh are implemented, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated.

Footage of the Russian leader's conversation by video link with the President of Azerbaijan before signing a joint statement with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Monday was shown on the Azerbaijani TV channel AzTV.

"Russia, for its part, will do its best to ensure that all the positions achieved in the course of negotiations between the three sides of the statement that we are signing today are fulfilled," Putin said. He expressed confidence that the agreement reached will "benefit and promote the interests of both the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples".

After that, the shots of signing the document were shown. At the end, Putin wished all the best to "all people, all nations that live in these territories". "I would like to express hope that we have done a good deed and created good basic conditions for the progressive development of relations between all countries of this region for the benefit of people who live in these territories, for the benefit of the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples," the Russian leader said.

End of confrontation

The President of Russia also expects that the reached agreements will put an end to years of confrontation, create conditions for the development of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Putin reminded that he had signed a statement with Aliyev and Pashinyan on a complete ceasefire and all military operations in the conflict zone around Nagorno-Karabakh from 00:00 on November 10, 2020.

"I very much hope that this decision, set out in our joint statement, will not only put an end to the longstanding confrontation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, not only put an end to the bloodshed on this land, but also create reliable mechanisms to control the agreements that we recorded today in our statement," the Russian leader said.

Putin also hopes that the reached agreements will create favorable conditions for "long-term - for the historical perspective - conditions for the development of relations in the region, primarily friendly relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia in the interests of both the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples".
