The hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh have been completely stopped, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.
At the meeting on the resolution of humanitarian issues in the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, the head of state noted that the trilateral statement adopted on November 9 by the President of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Russia "allowed to stop the bloodshed and stabilize the situation".
"Shelling and fighting have been completely stopped," Putin said.
Putin hopes that the word "conflict" will no longer be used to describe the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"I hope that we will no longer use the word 'conflict' to describe the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. I hope that we will soon move on to discussing other issues, one of which is, of course, very relevant," Putin said of the humanitarian issues.
Helping the people of Nagorno-Karabakh
Putin believes the civilian population of Nagorno-Karabakh will need additional help.
"If more help is needed for the civilian population, and I see it will be needed now, what opportunities does the [emergency] ministry have to respond immediately? - Putin appealed to Emergency Situations Minister Yevgeny Zinichev.
The number of casualties in Nagorno-Karabakh this fall exceeded 4,000, and more than 8,000 people were injured, the head of state added.
"The number of casualties, including among civilians, as a result of the fighting, has exceeded 4,000, more than 8,000 wounded, and the number of refugees, according to various sources, is tens of thousands," Putin said, noting that "many cultural facilities" and civilian infrastructure have been destroyed.
Putin also counts on the international support for the work of the Russian Interagency Center on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
