The Qatari authorities intend to strengthen cooperation and coordination with Russia on issues of mutual interest. Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, said this on Thursday.
"I have come to you today with a message from His Highness the Emir of Qatar [Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani] regarding further steps to increase bilateral cooperation and coordination," the Qatari prime minister said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The prime minister stressed the importance of joint economic projects and noted that Doha and Moscow have common interests in energy and food security. "Our countries have long-standing friendly relations and common interests on a wide range of issues, especially in energy and food security," he said.
The prime minister also mentioned that he had held "extensive" talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during which the two sides discussed some aspects of the regional and international agenda.
