The Qatari authorities continue their mediation efforts to resolve the Gaza conflict, though no substantial changes have been made in the negotiations. This was confirmed by Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majid bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, during a briefing, as reported by TASS.
“There is nothing new to report. Efforts are ongoing, and contacts continue,” Al-Ansari stated. He added that “all mediators are doing everything possible to advance towards an agreement.”
Negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages took place in Doha on August 15-16. A joint statement by Egypt, Qatar, and the US noted that the consultations were held in a positive atmosphere. During this new round of talks, the US, with the support of Qatar and Egypt, presented a proposal that could help narrow the differences between Hamas and Israel. However, Hamas criticized the American initiative, claiming it only favored Israel's interests.
The next round of consultations occurred in Cairo on August 25, where Hamas representative Izzat al-Rishq revealed that the delegation left after meetings with mediators from Egypt and Qatar. Hamas reiterated its demand for Israel to fulfill the conditions agreed upon on July 2. Mediation teams reconvened in Doha on August 28, and on August 7, CIA Director William Burns announced that the US would soon present detailed proposals for a Gaza ceasefire.
