Dushanbe considers the development of relations with Moscow a priority in its foreign policy and intends to continue making efforts to strengthen such ties, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon said Thursday at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
"The development of relations between Tajikistan and Russia is of priority in Tajikistan's foreign policy. We will continue to make efforts to build up multifaceted interaction with the Russian Federation," Rahmon said.
He noted that Moscow is "an important strategic partner and ally" for Dushanbe. Ties between the two countries are developing dynamically.
"Russia remains Tajikistan's main trade partner. Cultural and humanitarian ties are steadily expanding. We closely cooperate in the security sphere," Rahmon listed specific areas.
The Tajik president welcomed Mishustin's visit to Dushanbe. "I am convinced that the results of your visit will give a new impetus to our bilateral relations. Welcome," he said to Mishustin.
