Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov Meets with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim

04 September

Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov recently met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok.

During the meeting, Minnikhanov expressed his gratitude for the warm reception extended to the Tatarstan delegation during their visit to Kuala Lumpur in August.

"I'm very pleased to see you again. Our last meeting was held in a very friendly atmosphere. You inspired us to come here with a large delegation," said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as he welcomed Rustam Minnikhanov.

In response, Minnikhanov highlighted that the primary focus of Tatarstan's relationship with Malaysia is in trade, economic, and investment cooperation. He noted that while the trade turnover between Tatarstan and Malaysia increased by 5.5 times last year, it remains relatively modest at $61 million. "Tatarstan, as an export-oriented republic with significant industrial potential, is ready to supply a wide range of products," Minnikhanov stated.

The meeting also touched on Malaysia's cooperation with major Russian enterprises. "As we agreed during our meeting in Malaysia, the largest Russian companies are here today to meet with me. They could become key partners for you," Minnikhanov remarked.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his appreciation for Minnikhanov's active role in fostering business cooperation between the two countries.

It is worth noting that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is one of the prominent foreign guests at the Forum. Tomorrow, he will join Russian President Vladimir Putin in participating in the plenary session of the EEF.
