Reports: At Least 15 Southern Transitional Council Fighters Killed in Yemen Attack

16 August

At least 15 fighters from the Southern Transitional Council (STC) were killed in a terrorist attack in Yemen's southern province of Abyan, according to Sky News Arabia.

A source within the STC reported that a suicide bomber drove an explosives-laden vehicle into a brigade facility of the STC in the Umfris area. Initially, it was reported that 12 fighters were killed and more than 20 were injured. Later updates indicated that the death toll had risen to 15.

The broadcaster did not specify who was responsible for the attack, though it mentioned that in the nearby Wadi Umayran area, similar assaults have often been carried out by militants from the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, which is banned in Russia.
