Moscow and Beijing will actively cooperate to strengthen security in the Persian Gulf region. This is stated in a joint statement on deepening partnership signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
"The parties will actively cooperate in the interests of strengthening security in the Persian Gulf region and assist the countries of the region in strengthening mutual trust and realizing sustainable development," the document says.
The Persian Gulf is of particular importance to both Moscow and Beijing, as the world's largest trade arteries pass through it. These are both the Chinese project "Belt and Road" and the international transportation corridor "North - South".
