The coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated the situation in the Rukban refugee camp occupied by the Americans and their allies, and there could be a sharp outbreak of COVID-19, according to a joint statement of the heads of interdepartmental headquarters of Russia and Syria, Mikhail Mizintsev and Hussein Mahlouf.
“The U.S. continues to destabilize the country, preventing the return of citizens to their homes and the provision of humanitarian assistance through the UN in areas under the control of the Syrian government. At the same time, a critical situation remains in the territories occupied by U.S. troops, in the area of Al-Tanf, which is exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic”, the document said.
“Humanitarian problems persist in the Rukban refugee camp, where U.S.-controlled militants “continue to forcibly detain Syrian civilians”, the statement said.
“The lack of qualified medical care, personal protective equipment, testing and barrier control in a high-density, totally unsanitary refugee environment can lead to a dramatic outbreak of COVID-19”, the headquarters said.
