Russia and Turkey discuss new deliveries of S-400 air defense systems

07 May 2020

Russia and Turkey are negotiating new deliveries of the S-400 air defense system, the Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS) Dmitry Shugaev told the national defense magazine, the May publication of which will be issued in the next few days.

"The issue of an additional batch of S-400s for Turkey is on the agenda, it has not resolved yet. We agree on the composition of the system, delivery terms, and other conditions. Today, the negotiation process is underway, and we hope that in the foreseeable future we will find a common denominator," he said, in particular.

In 2019, Russia fulfilled the first contract for the supply of four S-400 divisions to Turkey costing 2.5 billion dollars. The contract also includes an option for another regimental kit.

Deliveries of the S-400 caused a crisis in Turkey's relations with the United States, which demanded to abandon the deal and instead to purchase American Patriot complexes, threatening to delay or cancel the sale of the latest F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, as well as impose sanctions.

Ankara refused to make concessions and continued negotiations on an additional batch of S-400s.
