Russia and Turkey start practical implementation of gas hub project

28 December 2022

Russia and Turkey have already started working on the project of creating a gas hub on the territory of Turkey, Gazprom's CEO Alexey Miller said at a conference call before the New Year. He noted that Russian offshore pipelines TurkStream and Blue Stream are currently working steadily.

"And now we and Turkey have started working on the project of a gas hub in this country. This decision was taken at the level of the leaders of the two states, and we have already started its practical implementation," said the head of Gazprom.

The gas hub will provide transparent and fair pricing in the natural gas market, said Miller.

"The world gas market will be developing rapidly and according to the long-term forecast, the consumption will grow by 20% in the next 20 years. So, of course, we are thinking about the future, we are thinking about our new projects, we are thinking about energy security," Miller added.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak said that the decision on the realization of the gas hub project in Turkey will be made in 2023. Russian President Vladimir Putin came up with the idea of creating a hub in Turkey, where the lost volume of transit through Nord Stream can be redirected, at the Russian Energy Week forum. According to him, it is possible to build another gas pipeline system and to create a hub in Turkey through which gas will be delivered to third countries, primarily European ones, if they are interested in it.
