Russia strongly condemns the attack and kidnapping of more than 300 students from a boarding school for boys in the Nigerian city of Kankara. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said this at a briefing on Wednesday.
"We strongly condemn another bandit outing by radicals in Nigeria. It was a reflection of the worsening criminogenic situation in the country as a whole," she said. - "We support the measures taken by the government of the country to counter gangs and terrorist groups."
According to orders from Nigerian authorities, all schools in Katsina state, where Kankara is located, are temporarily closed and an operation to find children and neutralize criminals is underway. "Presumably, this action was organized by militants of the extremist group Boko Haram and the Islamic State in West Africa (banned in Russia - TASS)," the diplomat said.
The terrorists broke into the building of the boarding school on motorcycles, opening fire in the evening of December 11. At the time of the attack, there were 884 students there, many of them fled. The police and military managed to find 200 students in the first hours. On December 14, 446 students were already at home. 258 families reported that their children had not yet returned home.
